New Zealand has tumbled out of the top 10 'most powerful' passports in the world to 17th place, according to the latest rankings.
The new list from Global Citizen Solutions ranks Germany in the number one slot with the US, Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands rounding out the top five.
Unlike other passport power rankings, the Global Citizen Solutions list takes into account not just how many countries a passport grants visa-free access to, but also the "ease of doing business, quality of life and investment opportunities", which one may look at before seeking to acquire a second passport.
Aotearoa has previously placed in the top 10, but in 2023 has dropped to 17 primarily due to the current state of the country's investment opportunities and high cost of living.
This contrasts with the New Zealand passport being ranked seventh equal in the 2023 Henley Passport Index rankings earlier this year, and third equal on Arton Capital's Passport Index, which is constantly updated rather than being released annually.
North Korea is ranked the worst at 199th on the 2023 Global Citizen Solutions passport list, with the bottom five being rounded out by the Vatican City, Syria, the Congo and Yemen.
