Fog is disrupting Auckland's Airport's domestic services on Monday evening.

A spokesperson for the airport says 10 departing flights and four arriving flights have been cancelled due to the conditions.

They say international flights have not been affected.

It is the second time today heavy fog has delayed travellers.

This morning Auckland Airport said about 30 domestic regional flights had been cancelled and 27 domestic regional flights had been delayed.

Fog restrictions were still in place after sunrise as low cloud blanketed parts of the city.

MetService forecast the fog to return this evening and expected it would last into Tuesday morning before showers developed.

Niwa said earlier in the day it expected people's travel plans today could be affected.

Ferry services were also affected by the heavy fog, with a number delayed for up to 30 minutes, and two services cancelled.

Meanwhile, orange heavy rain and strong wind warnings are in place for the north-east of the North Island.

A low heading to the region on Tuesday, and moving east on Wednesday, was set to bring heavy rain to Hawke's Bay and Gisborne / Tai Rāwhiti, especially from State Highway 5 to Tolaga Bay, MetService said.
