The New Zealand Embassy in Brussels is working to find out if any New Zealanders have been caught in two explosions at the city's airport or a blast at Maalbeek Metro Station.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) says there is a high risk to security in Belgium due to the threat of terrorism and advise against all tourist and other non-essential travel.
Two explosions have hit the Zaventem Airport near Brussels, closing the airport and stopping all flights. One separate explosion hit the city's metro rail station, forcing the entire network to shut down.
At least 30 have died in the three explosions, and at least 230 are injured.
There are currently 72 New Zealanders registered on SafeTravel as being in Belgium.
