The National Australia Day Council has released a slang quiz that tests how well people know their Aussie lingo in celebration of our trans-Tasman neighbour's national day.
It tests people on what it means to "get a handle on something" or to exclaim "ripper", as well as asking the definition of more obscure phrases like "finch pinchers" and "ridgy didge".
The holiday celebrates the anniversary of the First Fleet of British ships arriving in Australia with events around the country on January 26.
Many believe the celebrations are insensitive as the national day marks what is seen as the start of a brutal history that caused the widespread neglect and abuse of indigenous Aborigines.
The city of Fremantle in Western Australia moved the day to January 28 out of respect for Aboriginals.
