A shark has helped bring a North Carolina man to justice after he jumped into the sea to escape police.
Twenty-year-old Zachary Kingsbury ran into the ocean off the coast off Surf City after police officers spotted illegal contraband in his vehicle during a routine traffic stop.
Upon the discovery, he bolted out of his car - and, flanked by police officers, Kingsbury made it to the sea and just started swimming.
Officers weren't keen on swimming in after him, so instead deployed a drone to track his movements - a decision that brought dividends when they noticed he was being trailed by a shark.
After swimming for more than an hour in some of the most shark-infested waters in the world - and getting more than 1200 metres from shore - police called a rescue mission in conjunction with the local coastguard.
Following the rescue, Kingsbury was taken into Pender County Jail.
