A late night social media gaffe has brought Ted Cruz back into the spotlight on Twitter
Mr Cruz is the current Republican senator for Texas and last year ran against Donald Trump in the primary elections.
Around midnight local time a sexually explicit tweet was liked by the verified Ted Cruz Twitter account.
The tweet featured a two minute pornographic clip and was displayed on his feed for all of Twitter to see, and they certainly did.
Ted Cruz quickly became a trending topic and was the centre of a lot of jokes on Twitter.
The tweet remained on Mr Cruz's account for an hour before being deleted around 1:20am local time when Cruz's communication director, Catherine Frazier, tweeted that the incident had been reported to Twitter.
The socially conservative Republican, who has spent his career campaigning on "family values," has blamed the mistake on a member of staff.
