Whoever threw carrots at an alligator at a South Carolina resort has achieved a "new level of stupid", the reptile's owners say.
The alligator lives at the Fripp Island Resort Activity Center, which posted about the harassment on Facebook.
"The fine for harrassing an alligator is $200... That's $200 per carrot in this case," it said.
"This is a new level of stupid. We know some of Fripp's wildlife is amazing, but this is not how appreciation, respect, or admiration work."

Not only could it cost the carrot-armed criminal hundreds of dollars, the stunt could land them in jail. South Carolina state law allows for sentences up to 30 days for feeding an alligator, Fox News reported.
Spokesperson for the resort Jessica Miller told local media they're lucky the 3.3m alligator didn't fight back.
