Eight police officers in Argentina have lost their jobs after claiming mice ate half a tonne of confiscated marijuana that had gone missing.
Six tonnes of marijuana was being stored in a warehouse in Pilar, 60km from Beunos Aires, the Guardian reports.
But when it was weighed recently, only 5.5 tonnes were found.
Former Police Commissioner Javier Specia told a judge mice had eaten it, and so did three of his subordinates. But the judge had his doubts, as did forensic experts called in to examine the shrinking stash.
"Mice wouldn't mistake the drug for food, and that if a large group of mice had eaten it, a lot of corpses would have been found in the warehouse," a spokesperson for the judge said.
It's not clear yet if the weed went walkabouts through "expedience or negligence", and the officers will be called to testify in May, hopefully coming up with a better explanation than "mice ate it".
