A quick-thinking gas station worker in the US has been hailed a hero after she helped a kidnapped woman escape her captors.

Savannah Pritchett, 24, who works at the Triple R Gas and Mart, said the young woman asked for her help when she walked into her Californian station on Wednesday afternoon.

Surveillance footage shows the woman getting out of the car and going into the gas station after convincing her kidnappers she needed to use the bathroom.

The footage shows the woman approaching Ms Pritchett reportedly pointing out her suspects and telling her she had been kidnapped and raped the night before.

"The first thing she did tell me was, 'I was kidnapped, and they do have guns. Please, lock the door. They will kill us, or kill me,'" Ms Pritchett told KCRA.

Ms Pritchett locked the store doors and gave the woman her cellphone telling her to lock herself in the bathroom and call 911.

Two of the four suspects tried to get inside the store after Ms Pritchett told them the woman was using the bathroom.

They came inside the store searching for the woman before police arrived.

Eighteen-year-old Anthony Sandoval and two other 16-year-old suspects who remain unidentified were arrested.
