Chilean navy divers have rescued a trapped whale in a daring underwater rescue off the coast of Puerto Williams on Monday.
Video shows divers swimming towards the four-metre-long cetacean whale and cutting away fishing net that it had become entangled in.
Navy Captain Cesar Quiroga told reporters the group had been looking for wildlife to save and it did not take long to find the whale.
"The General Alacalufe service boat set sail with a group of naval ships from the Begal Canal district on permanent assignment to rescue marine wildlife," he said
"[It] arrived to the area at approximately 4pm, where after little more than an hour ships successfully freed this whale in spite of the danger in the waters where the whale was found."
Authorities are now asking fishermen to remove the nets following the rescue.
