A massive quake has struck in the Pacific Ocean near Fiji.
Initial measurements from USGS suggest it was magnitude 8.2 in strength, but 560km deep.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said no tsunami was expected, perhaps considering the quake's depth.
"A destructive pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat."
New Zealand's GeoNet service said the tremor generated "ghost quakes" in its systems.
"Some 'ghost quakes' (not real) have been [generated] by our auto-location system 30mins ago," it said on Twitter.
"The real quake was VERY deep (560km) magnitude 8.2, 281 km from Fiji, The location & depth means it won't have caused damage, these deep quakes don't cause tsunami."
