An office of 11 people has won NZ$805 million - the largest lottery jackpot in California history.

The California Lottery released a statement on Friday (local time), saying the jackpot prize had been claimed by 11 colleagues working in the financial industry, reported USA Today.

According to the statement, the office did not regularly have a lottery pool - but for what was also the third-largest Mega Millions jackpot in the game's history, the 11 each put a couple of dollars in.

While the group declined to speak to media or release a photo, Roland Reyes was one of the winners - and he said they allintended to keep working, with the group ranging from 21 to 60 in age.

"We want to keep our jobs. We love that company. We love what we've built there. We have a good time and want to stay together," said Mr Reyes in the statement.

While the group plans to use the money to pay off their mortgages, fund college tuitions, travel and help family members, one worker said she would invest the money and hopes to not be a "one-time millionaire".

The winning ticket was sold at a San Jose liquor store, which will also receive just over NZ$1 million from the Californian Lottery.
