Meet Sniffles, the odd-looking snorting dog with no nose and crooked teeth who's been rescued from the streets just before Christmas.

Sniffles was discovered living rough and taken to the Poodle and Pooch Rescue centre in Florida. Vets at the centre say he's had a hard life.

"Sniffles is a new arrival, another senior dog that animal control asked us to help," the centre says.

"This boy was full of hookworms and whipworms. We only see whipworms when dogs were kept in a filthy, outside living environment for a long period of time, usually with breeders or those who think it's ok for a dog to live in backyard."

But vets say the dog's deformities, which cause him to snort, mean people are passing him up when looking for a pet to adopt.

"Everyone at the vet's office has fallen in love with him," vet Michelle Wacker told WESH-TV.

"He's a healthy dog. He just looks a little funny."

His foster mother says he's a great dog.

"This morning I woke up and he was at the edge of my bed, staring at me and he ran over and did a little twirl and started licking my face," Genesis Diaz said.

But his current look won't last long. Vets say he's booked in for dental surgery once his parasites are gone.

He will be available for adoption in 2019.
