A six-year-old Indian boy has become an internet sensation after rushing to the hospital with the body of a chicken he had just run over.
Derek Lalchhanhima, from Sairang in the north of India, was pictured at a local hospital holding the dead bird in one hand and offering money to staff with the other.
Local media report Lalchhanhima returned home to his father with the body after running it over with his bike. While he begged his parents to take it to the hospital, his father said he needed to go by himself.
But he became upset as the local medical practitioners wouldn't help the chick as it was already dead and would only take the now widely circulated photo.
One Facebook post of the picture has been shared more than 89,000 times.
"This young boy from Sairang, Mizoram, accidentally ran over his neighbour's chicken. He took the chicken, ran to a nearby hospital and with all the money he had, asked for help," the post says.
Many commenters praised the boy's innocence while some called his story inspiring.
"What an inspiration story. So cute and innocent boy," said one user, while another said: "If everyone in the world was so concerned about every other living being this would have been a lovely place".
