Donald Trump says he looks orange because of energy-efficient bulbs

Donald Trump has admitted he looks orange, but only because he's constantly being photographed beneath energy-efficient bulbs.

The US President's distinctive hue has been the subject of much mockery during his term, leading to derisive nicknames such as 'Cheeto in Chief' and 'Mango Mussolini'.

Speaking to Republican House members on Thursday (US time) about "naïve" efforts to clean up the environment, Trump questioned the light bulbs installed at the Marriott Waterfront hotel in Baltimore.

"The lightbulb. People said, 'What's with the lightbulb?' I said, 'Here's the story…' And I looked at it - the bulb that we're being forced to use - number one, to me, most importantly, the light is no good. I always look orange. And so do you. The light is the worst.

"But number two, it's many times more expensive than that old incandescent bulb that worked very well. And very importantly - I don't know if you know this - they have warnings. If it breaks, it's considered a hazardous waste site. It's gasses inside... They don't tell you about the dangers of the bulb, and they don't tell you about the cost of that bulb."

It's widely believed Trump's orange colour is actually a bad fake tan. Earlier this year, a White House official told the New York Times it was actually "good genes", but few believed it.

"He wears the goggles and you can see the hyper-pigmentation around his eyes," makeup artist Jason Kelly told Business Insider in 2016.

Omarosa Manigault Newman, a former aide to the President, said in 2018 he uses a tanning bed every day.
