A Sydney man has died in a horrific workplace after apparently being dragged into a woodchipper.

The 40-year-old, who the Sunday Telegraph has identified as Fijian national Samuela Cirivakayawa, was working on Saturday morning outside Cromehurst School.

News.com.au reports he was one of three workers trimming trees and dumping the waste into the woodchipper when two of them left to move a car, leaving him alone to tend the machine.

But when they returned, they found their colleague had vanished. All that was left was a large pool of blood.

They called emergency services, who raced to the scene. Police have labelled the accident site a crime scene and cordoned off the area.

"There is no update, police are preparing a report for the Coroner," a police spokesperson told news.com.au on Sunday.

It's the latest workplace incident to strike Sydney after a young tradie got his genitals caught in a belt sander on Friday. He was hospitalised with suspected tears in his genital area.
