An Australian man has admitted his role in a rampage which saw 21 kangaroos run over and killed by a ute.

Nathan Sanger admitted the charge of torturing, beating and killing an animal in NSW's Bega Local Court on Tuesday, AAP reports. He was immediately given a suspended jail sentence of two years.

The roos were killed near Tura Beach in late September. It was an incident that "shocked the community" according to the Bega District News.

Magistrate Doug Dick said Sanger may be forgiven for his actions but the incident "will never be forgotten.

"At the time there was a great deal of community outrage, as you know," Magistrate Dick said, according to Bega District News.

Sanger's suspended jail sentence means he will undertake community service.

Another man alleged to be in the vehicle with Sanger at the time of the killings meanwhile has denied the same charges.

The man, 33-year-old Ashley Sorenson, will reappear in court next year.
