A young "puppy" dropped into a backyard by an eagle in Victoria's north-east has turned out to be no normal canine.

DNA test results last week confirmed the puppy is in fact a dingo - and an endangered breed at that.
The dingo, called "Wandi", was found in August and taken to a local animal hospital, the ABC reported.
Alpine Animal Hospital vet Dr Bec Day said he was about two months old when he was brought to them.
"He had a mark on his back [from what is believed to be an eagle's claws] and there was no other pups nearby," Dr Day told the ABC. "The resident hadn't heard any [other dingos] calling. So he was just a lonely little soul sitting in a backyard.
"It is just incredible."
Wandi, one of Australia's rarest breeds called the Canis dingo, has since been moved to a sanctuary and is doing well.
