Six people have died in an apartment complex blaze in Las Vegas after a stove caught on fire.

The blaze broke out in the downtown area of the city early Saturday morning (local time), Las Vegas Fire and Rescue said on Facebook.

It's understood 13 people were injured, five of whom - including a pregnant woman - are critical. A dog and two cats also died.

Authorities say the fire broke out in a stove inside one of the apartments.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue public information officer Tim Szymanski told reporters multiple people were hanging out apartment windows when they arrived.

"Some people were already jumping, and [there] was heavy smoke coming from the building," he said, as reported by CBS News.

Investigators were at the scene.
