A pregnant woman who was filmed having a tense encounter with Scott Morrison says she is "in shock" over how the prime minister dealt with her.
Zoey Salucci-McDermott was filmed meeting Morrison when he visited the fire-ravaged town of Cobargo, just off the southern coast of Australia's New South Wales.
The interaction received a strong backlash online, due to Salucci-McDermott's apparent reluctance to shake hands with the PM.
Footage showed Morrison extending his hand towards the 20-year-old. When she seemingly refused take it, Morrison can be seen grabbing her hand and shaking it himself.
Salucci-McDermott then responded, saying: "I'm only shaking your hand if you give more funding to our [Rural Fire Service]".
"So many people have lost their homes."
Morrison was then seen turning his back to her and walking off as the young woman continued to stare at him.
Speaking to 10 News First, Salucci-McDermott, said the interaction left her heartbroken.
"It broke my heart, I would have happily sat down and had a cuppa with him if he'd just asked if I was okay," she said.
"I told him it was a war zone, and he walked away, and it broke my heart. I couldn't do anything but stand there."
She told 10 News First she questioned the sincerity of the prime minister's visit.
"He wasn't here to help us, was he?"
She said she had lost everything in the fires, apart from her car and the belongings she managed to fit inside it.
Morrison has received increasing criticism for his handling of the bushfires that rage across the country.
Other residents of Cobargo were also filmed yelling at him, calling him an "idiot", a "f**kwit" and a "c***", among other things.
At least 140 fires continue to burn across New South Wales, many uncontrollably. More than 40 fires are also burning in the state of Victoria.
At least 20 people have died so far in the blazes.
