A US woman is shocked after her car windscreen was shattered by an airborne turtle, with local police clueless how the incident unfolded.
Latonya Lark was driving to do some chores in the Georgian city of Savannah last week when out of nowhere, the turtle came hurtling towards her vehicle.
"I saw out of the corner of my eye what I thought was a brick," she told CNN.
"It scared me so bad, it sounded like a bomb went off and glass went all over my brother."
Lark's brother Kevin Grant, who was in the passenger's seat, was treated for minor injuries after being cut by the shattered windscreen.
The turtle, however, died upon impact.
"We're so grateful because this could have been fatal," Lark told CNN.
"The really sad part is that the turtle died. That was really upsetting."
A Chatham County Police spokesperson told local news station WSAV it remains unclear how the turtle became airborne.
It's not the first time this has occurred in the US. Last year, John Gardner was driving to his work in the city of Conway in South Carolina when a turtle struck his windscreen.
In that case, it was believed the turtle had been struck by another vehicle, causing it to become airborne.
