A couple of healthcare workers have tied the knot at their workplace after their wedding was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Jann Tipping, 34, and Annalan Navaratnam, 30, are both employees of St Thomas' Hospital, a facility that made headlines earlier this year when UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who had contracted the virus, was rushed to intensive care.
Tipping and Navaratnam, an ambulatory emergency nurse and doctor respectively, were married in the central London hospital's historic, Grade II-listed chapel.
Friends and family were able to enjoy their special day remotely as one of the witnesses live-streamed the service for guests to view.
The wedding was initially scheduled to take place in August, but the couple scrapped the plan over fears their families would be unable to travel from Northern Ireland and Sri Lanka due to ongoing border closures amid the pandemic.
The newlyweds, who reside in south London, received a special go-ahead for a private wedding ceremony, BBC News reports.
Tipping told the outlet they wanted to make sure "we could celebrate while we were all still able to, even if it meant our loved ones having to watch us on a screen".
A virtual drinks reception, complete with a first dance and speeches, was also hosted by the married couple.
UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock called the wedding "lovely" in a Tweet.
