A Florida man died from asphyxiation after his girlfriend locked him in a suitcase and left him there, a medical examination has found.

Sarah Boone was arrested in February on charges of second-degree murder. The 42-year-old is accused of tricking her boyfriend Jorge Torres Jnr. into getting inside the suitcase during a game of hide and seek and then zipping him inside.

The post-mortem of Torres, also 42, showed he died of positional asphyxia with environmental suffocation consistent with prolonged confinement.

The report, obtained by local news site clickorlando.com, also revealed Torres had alcohol in his system and was in the suitcase for "up to 11 hours or more".

Boone told investigators the pair had been drinking that night and she passed out in bed completely forgetting her boyfriend was in the bag.

However, cellphone footage recorded by Boone shows her taunting Torres as he pleads to be released.

As Torres shouts he can't breathe, Boone can be heard talking back to him.

"That's on you. That's how I feel when you cheat on me," she says.

She also laughs at him and tells him to "shut up" when he calls her name.

Boone remains in the Orange County Jail without bond.
