British residents have come up with an unusual strategy to replace Prime Minister Boris Johnson with Jacinda Ardern- by waging war on New Zealand.
Ardern has been widely praised for her response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the 'go hard, go early' approach which has led to no new cases in three weeks, and no active cases remaining.
Johnson, however, has been slammed for letting the situation in the UK "become like a nightmare".
Now a petition has been set up on change.org to 'Declare war on New Zealand and immediately surrender'.
This would utilise an international law that states any country that defeats another in war becomes the de facto government.
"The British Government has shown itself to be completely incapable of controlling the COVID-19 virus outbreak in the UK," the petition says.
"The New Zealand Government has on the other hand carefully controlled the outbreak...
"Under international law if you defeat a country in a war you become the de facto government of that country until new arrangements are made.
"Therefore if the UK declares war on New Zealand and then immediately surrenders Jacinda Ardern and her Government will have to take over running the UK and will do a much better job than the present bunch of clowns.
"I am sure they will treat us well in defeat and sort out a few other things while they are at it."
The petition has only gathered just over 500 signatures so far but appears to have been featured in Sunday Times newspaper in the UK.
