Former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark has called out tech billionaire Elon Musk over his comments about Egypt's pyramids.
On Friday, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO had tweeted what appeared to be a conspiracy theory about Egypt's ancient history.
"Aliens built the pyramid obv," he tweeted in a post reshared more than 86,000 times.
Clark responded to his tweet on Monday and said "it isn't funny".
"Even if Elon Musk's statement that Egypt's pyramids were built by aliens was meant as a joke, it isn't funny," she said in a tweet. "Egyptians are rightly proud of their extraordinary heritage."
It is not clear whether his post was serious, but it sparked a few confronting replies.
Egypt's Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat responded on Twitter and invited him to explore further.
"I follow your work with a lot of admiration," she said.
"I invite you & SpaceX to explore the writings about how the pyramids were built and also to check out the tombs of the pyramid builders."
Musk later followed up his claims by linking a BBC ancient history article and said it provided a "sensible summary for how it was done".
In reality the pyramids were not built by aliens but are in fact man-made, according to archaeologist Dr Joyce Tyldesley of BBC History.
