A Kiwi-Korean Businesswoman, her 2-year-old son and mother died in a landslide in South Korea.
Anna Song, 36, was the Director and Treasurer of the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Korea and had been living with her family in their vacation cottage northeast of Seoul.
Song, her mother Rose Kim, 65, and two-year-old son Taeyang Rikiti were found buried under a landslide in Gapyeoung, Gyeonggi Province on Monday morning.
The heavy downpour in Korea's central regions has left 13 people dead, 13 missing across the country and more than 1000 forced to leave their homes, according to The Korea Times.
Chairman of the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce in Korea Tony Garrett confirmed the death of the family in a statement today.
"The suddenness and untimeliness of this tragedy is beyond words."
"We will miss you Anna, dear friend. You have been a longstanding friend and supporter of the Chamber, the Kiwi Alumni and New Zealand generally - involved in all activities to promote the New Zealand and Korea relationship."
"Beyond what Anna did with the Chamber, she was an incredibly committed mother and daughter. She left me breathless on how she managed to balance all she did," the statement said.
Song's friends have organised a fundraiser to support her brother Sean (currently in New Zealand) to travel to Korea and attend the funeral.
