Alarming footage has shown the moment a protestor caught fire during a Black Lives Matter march in the United States.
The incident occurred in Portland, Oregon, a city where Black Lives Matter protests have been running for 100 days.
Multiple videos of the person on fire were uploaded to Twitter during the weekend, and they show a man desperately running away after he gets caught in the blaze. A person filming one of the videos is heard calling him a "f***ing idiot".
One Twitter user claims the man set himself on fire, whereas another says he was lit on fire by another person.
It appears Molotov cocktails are what started the fire, as burning bottles are seen and heard crashing against the road with one landing near the protester.
After the large fire starts in the middle of the street, the protester attempts to put out the flames that are burning on his feet and lower body. He also tries rolling on the ground to put the blaze out.
One bystander is heard shouting, "smother it, smother it", while another says, "take your shoes off".
A third person is seen holding what appears to be a metal rubbish bin lid which they use to try and smother the flames on the protester.
Riot police then help the man put out the blaze.
As the video continues, police are heard over a speaker saying, "this has been declared a report", and they ask protesters to leave the area.
Portland Police said on Twitter protesters were "engaging in tumultuous and violent conduct thereby intentionally or recklessly creating a grave risk of causing public alarm".
"This is a riot. Police are giving announcements to disperse. People are throwing Molotov cocktails," it said.
It added Molotov cocktails have injured at least one person.
"Failure to disperse may result in arrest citation crowd control agents including tear gas and/or impact weapons."
The city's daily protests began after the death of African American man George Floyd, who was killed by a white police officer in May in Minneapolis.
His death sparked protests both across the US and worldwide, with people demanding police accountability and racial justice.
