A 10-year-old boy has become one of the youngest people to die from COVID-19 in the UK.

Fehzan Jamil, from West Yorkshire, died on Monday (local time) after falling ill with COVID-19.

His parents, Tayyaba and Mohammed, told Channel 4 News he had a number of underlying health issues including epilepsy.

"He was a really brave fighter, he was a soldier," his father said.

"There were four of us now, now there are only three. The pain is indescribable."

"We tried to keep Fehzan at home as much as possible. And nobody came into the house without a mask," he added.

"We tried our best to keep him safe, but somehow COVID got to him."

The young boy had been treated at Bradford Royal Infirmary and the staff allowed the family to stay by his side as he died.

"All the staff were very good to us," his mother said.

"They have known Fehzan for many years now and have always looked after him. They let us be beside him when he died. It meant a lot."
