A homophobic Hungarian politician has been immortalised as a gay icon after he resigned for breaching COVID-19 restrictions in an orgy.
József Szájer, one of the founders of Hungary's anti-LGBTQ party, made headlines last week after he was caught naked with several other men in a sex party which was raided by police.
Now the right-wing former politician is the subject of a large mural in Rome celebrating him as a gay icon.
In the mural, Szájer is clad in a leather harness with the Hungarian coat of arms tattooed in rainbow colours on his arm. He is accompanied by five naked men.
The artist behind the work, who goes by the name Laika, said they were inspired by "a dream of a world" where Szájer would be able to express his sexual identity freely.
"I want a world where even Szájer can be free to live his sexuality the way he believes, without hiding from the eyes of his own party."
Szájer rewrote Hungary's constitution to exclude same-sex marriage and recently proposed a law that would block same-sex couples from adopting. He resigned from the European Parliament last week.
