The Prime Minister of Hungary has condemned one of his politicians who was caught fleeing from a 25-man orgy in Brussels, Belgium on Saturday.
József Szájer, an MEP (Member of European Parliament) from Hungary's ruling Fidesz party, was caught climbing out of a window and "fleeing along the gutter" from the gathering, Belgian newspaper La Dernière Heure reported.
The behaviour was slammed as hypocritical because Szájer has played a key role in a conservative government that has enacted numerous pieces of anti-LGBT legislation.
It was also in breach of the country's strict COVID-19 rules, where gatherings of over four people are banned.
On Wednesday Hungary's Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán criticised Szájer's participation in the orgy.
"What our representative, József Szájer, did has no place in the values of our political family. We will not forget nor repudiate his 30 years of work, but his deed is unacceptable and indefensible," Orbán said, according to The Guardian.
Szájer admitted in a statement on Tuesday that he had been present at a "private party".
"A newspaper article appeared in the Belgian press today about a house party in Brussels on Friday, which I attended," it wrote.
"After the police asked for my identity - since I did not have an ID on me - I declared that I was an MEP."
"I deeply regret violating the COVID restrictions, it was irresponsible on my part. I am ready to stand for the fine that occurs."
He quit soon after.
In a terse statement, their political party Fidesz condemned Szájer.
"He made the only right decision. We acknowledge his decision, just as we acknowledge that he has apologised to his family, his political community and to the voters," it read.
