A cannabis dispensary in Michigan, US is encouraging citizens to get vaccinated against COVID-19 by giving out free weed.

Greenhouse of Walled Lake, a recreational cannabis store, is running a 'Pot for Shots' promotion until the end of February.

Anyone who shows proof they have been vaccinated against COVID-19 receives a free pre-rolled joint.

"We're all hoping that the COVID vaccine is the beginning of the end for this pandemic that has taken such a toll on our neighbours, our communities and our nation," the shop wrote on Instagram.

"If you choose to get the COVID vaccine (we always support the freedom of choice), this is our way of saying thank you for helping end this pandemic and getting us back to normal."

More than 31 million vaccine doses have been distributed to the US as of Monday as the country surpasses 400,000 deaths.

The acceptance of the COVID-19 vaccine in the US has continued to soar, according to survey results from the Suffolk University poll.

The majority (56 percent) of those surveyed said they will get the vaccine as soon as it becomes available to them - up 10 percent since the same question was asked in December.

"The more people that get a vaccination and they see that it's safe, then more people are willing to go get it," nurse practitioner Shellie Belapurkar told USA today.

"It's all about education and I don't think we've educated our population nearly enough to the dangers of the coronavirus."
