A Sydney man has been arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman while she was having an epileptic seizure in an attack police described as "horrific".
The 27-year-old man is alleged to have committed an aggravated sexual assault on the 40-year-old woman while she was unconscious in an apartment earlier in February. Police say the man knew the woman.
New South Wales Police's Detective Inspector David El-Badawi said the allegations floored him.
"To [allegedly] attack someone in this manner in their moment of need, when they should be calling for medical assistance - it's horrific," he said.
"She suffers from a condition where she blacks out for a number of minutes. We will allege this man took advantage of her and attacked her."
They say once the assault was over, the accused left the apartment and did not seek medical attention for the woman.
The woman is "still shaken" and undergoing counselling, Det Insp El-Badawi added.
The man accused was arrested on Monday, and appeared in court on Tuesday. He did not apply for bail and will reappear in court in June.
