A police officer who fatally shot an African-American man in Minnesota has been identified as Kimberly Potter.
Potter shot and killed 20-year-old Daunte Wright during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Centre on Sunday (local time).
On Monday, Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon said he believed the shooting was accidental and the officer thought she fired her taser instead of her handgun.
The city released body camera footage of the shooting but did not name the officer.
On Monday night (local time), the Minnesota BCA identified the officer as Kim Potter.
Potter has worked for the Brooklyn Centre Police department for 26 years and is president of the Brooklyn Centre Police Officers Association.
She has been placed under standard administrative leave.
