A Russian beautician has been sentenced to 17 years behind bars for killing her friend's baby by throwing her out of a 13th-floor window.
Daria Shavelkina, 31, was pregnant at the time and "envious" of her friend's loving husband and happy family life, local media reported.
The incident happened in December when Shavelkina's friend, Yaroslava Korolyova, agreed to let her come to her apartment to pick up some second-hand baby clothes.
When Korolyova went into another room to collect more items, Shavelkina grabbed the two-month-old baby girl and flung her out the window.
The baby was found dead after falling 40 metres. Korolyova suffered "deep shock" and required urgent medical assistance.
Shavelkina tried to claim she'd "heard voices in her head", but the court dismissed this as psychiatric experts found no signs of schizophrenia, Russian news site Lenta reported.
There had been no quarrel between the friends before the incident, the criminal investigation said.
