A glamour model has suffered shocking injuries after she was attacked by a leopard during a photoshoot in Germany.
Animal rights activist Jessica Leidolph entered an enclosure with leopard Troja at the private property in Germany for a photography session.
Troja then attacked Leidolph, biting her cheek, ear and head according to local media.
The 36-year-old lost consciousness and was airlifted to hospital where she immediately underwent surgery on her face.
There were initial concerns when local media wrongly reported that the leopard escaped the enclosure but Burgenland District spokesperson Steven Muller-Uhrig said the animal never broke out.
German police are investigating what caused the incident and who was present at the time while also trying to figure out what safety measures were in place.
The owner of the private property, 48-year-old Birgit Stache, has worked as an animal trainer for 20 years and holds a legal license to keep the animals.
Stache is currently being investigated for negligent bodily harm along with other people responsible for the animals on the farm.
Troja and another leopard living in the enclosure named Paris had once featured in an advert for Panasonic before they were moved to the retirement home for show animals in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt.
