New South Wales has recorded another 1281 COVID-19 cases as the state battles a vicious Delta outbreak.
There have also been five deaths, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said.
There are currently 1071 COVID-19 cases in hospital, with 177 people in intensive care, 67 of whom require ventilation.
In an update on Monday, NSW Health confirmed 1281 locally acquired cases were reported to 8pm last night.
The deaths include three women and two men. One man was in his 90s and died at St George Hospital.
The other was a man in his 60s from Southern Highlands who died at home. Two of the women were in their 80s, one from northern Sydney who died at Ryde Hospital and another from western Sydney who died at Westmead Hospital.
The final death was a woman in her 50s from western Sydney who also died at Westmead.
NSW Health's ongoing sewage surveillance program also recently detected fragments of the virus that causes COVID-19 in Byron Bay.
The department said no recent cases have been detected in this location, so everyone is urged to monitor for the onset of symptoms, and if they appear, to immediately be tested and isolate until a negative result is received.
There were 136,455 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with 115,495 on Sunday.
Berejiklian also revealed the total number of vaccines administered in NSW is now 7,543,522.
Neighbouring Victoria is also struggling, with the state reporting a further 246 local cases.
