New South Wales has recorded 1,485 new local COVID cases and three more deaths from the current Delta outbreak.
NSW Health announced on Sunday that two women in their 50s and 70s and a man in his 70s died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
The number of deaths in the state's current outbreak is now 126, out of a total 182 since the start of the pandemic.
There have been 27,984 locally acquired cases reported since 16 June 2021, when the first case in this outbreak was confirmed.
There are currently 1,030 COVID-19 cases in hospital, with 175 people in intensive care, 72 of whom require ventilation.
There were 115,495 COVID-19 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 131,174.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced that 40 percent of the state's eligible population were now fully vaccinated.
"This is an incredible milestone to have each given where we were a few months ago," she said. "We have 70 per cent of the population with a first dose.
"When we hit 80 per cent first dose we will be confident we can get 80 per cent double dose. Not many places in the world have done that and I am confident we will."
Berejiklian said a "peak" in cases is expected in the coming weeks, while a peak in hospitalisations will take place in October.
"The modelling is only as good as our behaviour and getting vaccinated,” she says. "It is based on people getting vaccinated and on the fact that they will not be super spreading events that we don't anticipate."
NSW Health administered 46,502 COVID-19 vaccinations in the 24 hours taking the total number of vaccinations administered in NSW to more than seven million.
Meanwhile, Victoria recorded 183 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which took the state's current case total in the most recent outbreak to 1,417.
