A former contestant on the British version of The Apprentice has been jailed for harassing Kiwi journalist Dan Wootton.

Andrew Brady, 31, who is also a former fiance of the late TV presenter Caroline Flack, was jailed for four months for  a series of threats and abusive messages posted on social media about Wootton.

The threats included calling Wootton a sex offender and a murderer the BBC reported.

Brady started harassing Wootton after Flack's death in February 2020, who he in part blamed Wootton for.

Brady pleaded guilty to the charges.

The BBC reported Judge Jeremy Richardson said Brady's attacks had "everything to do with your craving for celebrity status and your irritation that the press were not in the least interested in your somewhat uninteresting life".

Former Love Island UK host Caroline Flack was found dead in her home in February 2020.

"We can confirm our Caroline passed away today on the 15th of February (local time)," a statement said at the time.

"We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time."

Reports said the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Kiwi Wootton is the former executive editor of the Sun and current Daily Mail columnist. He has recently been outspoken about New Zealand's managed isolation rules for Kiwis returning home.

In a series of columns he has been particularly critical of Jacinda Ardern calling her a "cruel woman."
