Shipwreck found off American coast confirmed as Captain Cook's endeavour

A shipwreck found off the coast of America has been confirmed as Captain Cook's endeavour.

But furious researchers in the US say Australia has claimed the discovery too soon.

"For a lot of people it won't make a lot of sense at all, it's just a mass of mess on the seafloor," Diver Kieran Hosty says.

But after years of suspicions and theories, collecting and comparing clues to centuries old maps and blueprints the mystery of what that mass of mess is has been solved by Australian researchers.

"We can conclusively confirm this is the wreck of Cook's endeavour," an Australian researcher said.

But the Americans have doubts about the discovery, calling Australia's announcement  "premature".

"There are many unanswered questions," a statement from RIPMAP said.

"Our conclusion will be driven by proper scientific process and not Australian emotions or politics."

"They claim we've gone early they claim they've done all the work and we've taken all the glory. is that right?" Sunrise TV host said.

"They believe we are guilty of ruling theory. That we are so emotionally involved with endeavour we are totally focused on this site and we must make this the endeavour," Hosty says.

If you believe it, it will end a 22-year search for the historical ship, which chartered the east coast of Australia and mapped New Zealand in the 1700s.

If you don't, the quest continues.
