Russian soldiers are looking for a way out of the war, with some resorting to shooting their own legs to get sent home.
In a phone call intercepted by the Security Service of Ukraine, a Russian soldier revealed to his mother some soldiers no longer want to fight and have a cunning plan to get sent home.
"We wanted to shoot each other's legs with Ukrainian 7.62 rounds and go back to the hospital here in Budenovsk, as the boys did," the transcribed audio says. "We wanted to shoot each other's legs so that they would bandage us and send to the hospital. May the God let me live do this."
Russian soldiers are using 5.62mm ammunition so the soldiers have had to find Ukrainian bullets to make the injuries believable.
The soldier told his mother that they will not let him leave the war, stating soldiers refusing to serve were being arrested.
"They will not return me. Here, people who refused to serve were given eight years in prison already."
The soldier said in his brigade stationed in the city of Mykolaiv 350 soldiers were killed and 120 Russians were wounded and sent to hospital.
The Russian brigade are sitting ducks for an attack, with the soldier saying they have no tanks left and if they are attacked they will be destroyed.
On February 24, Russia launched a full-scale attack on Ukraine causing thousands of deaths on both sides.
The United Nations in Ukraine said in a statement that the crisis in Ukraine is developing rapidly with 90 percent of the Ukrainian population could be facing poverty and extreme economic vulnerability should the war deepen.
In cities across Russia, there have reportedly been thousands of people protesting against the war, as many condemn the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
