Donald Trump has revealed he regrets not attending the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, an event he was later accused of inciting.
The Washington Post reported the former US President wanted to march along with those who were there and support them.
“Secret Service said I couldn’t go - I would have gone there in a minute," he said.
Trump also bragged about the size of the gathering at the riot, calling it a "tremendous crowd".
Last month internal White House phone records revealed that on the day of the attack, there was a more than a seven-hour gap on his phone logs - including when the assault occurred.
The House committee which investigated the attack was examining whether Trump used burners or disposable mobile phones during this time to contact people, the Washington Post reports.
Trump claimed he didn't even know the meaning of 'burner phone', however in March his former national security adviser John Bolton said the president had used the term several times in conversations.
He claimed he just hadn't received many phone calls that day and told the Post "why would I care who called me?"
"If congressmen were calling me, what difference did it make? There was nothing secretive about it, there was no secret."
Trump also acknowledged he communicated with Conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas's wife Virginia Thomas during his presidency.
The former US President claimed he was not aware of Thomas's wife repeatedly trying to persuade Trump's Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, to try to keep him in power after President Joe Biden won the election.
On Wednesday the House voted to hold former Trump aides Peter Navarro and Dan Scavino in criminal contempt due to their refusal to comply with subpoenas when the Capitol attack was being investigated, resulting in potential prosecution.
