A video of US President Joe Biden has been posted online which appears to be him shaking hands with thin air after a speech.
Biden had just finished a nearly 40-minute speech in North Carolina when he stretched his hand towards the right of the stage, with no one there to shake it.
After looking around in apparent confusion he walked off the stage.
People took to social media arguing whether or not he was shaking his hand to no one or if he was stretching out his hand to acknowledge the people around the stage, reported the New York Times.
Republican Senator Ted Cruz reacted to the encounter by posting the video on Twitter along with an eye roll emoji.
Biden, now aged 79, is the oldest person in US history to assume the presidency.
