A trucker convoy group in California has been egged by angry locals in a fiery encounter.

The protest group, known as the "People's Convoy", gathered outside the home of Buffy Wicks, a California State Representative, to protest her support of an abortion rights bill on Friday (local time).

The group of about 20 drivers filled the road near Wicks' home, honking their horns and using bullhorns to demand the California State Representative leave her home.

The convoy drew fierce opposition from neighbours, who told the drivers to leave the residential street, SF Gate reported.

Wicks called police for protection, and the trucks dispersed when officers responded.

But as the group left the area, they got stuck in traffic outside an Oakland supermarket where a group of residents, made up of primarily young people, hurled eggs at the protesters.

Video footage from the scene shows the residents shouting "get the f**k out of here" and hurling eggs at the protesters.

Some of the protesters can be seen getting out of their cars and confronting the residents.

A demonstrator then yells "do you have a problem" and "we are fighting for your freedoms too" before a local pulls the finger at him and says "f**k you".

Tensions continued to escalate with residents shouting "go back to hell" and throwing eggs.

The "People's Convoy" - which originated in California - was one of many trucker groups originally protesting COVID-19 restrictions.

But as the restrictions have begun to ease, the group's focus has shifted to supporting conservative causes.

In March, the "People's Convoy" made headlines when they drove laps around Washington DC, threatening to cause traffic disruptions demanding an end to all pandemic-related restrictions.
