The family of a teacher killed in the Texas school shooting have had more devastating news, with her husband dying from a heart attack just two days after the tragedy.
Joe Gracia, husband of Irma Garcia, returned home from laying flowers at his wife's memorial on Thursday (local time) when he "pretty much just fell over", his nephew John Martinez told the New York Times.
The outlet reported the couple had been married for 24 years and shared four children.
Joe had been hit by immense grief when he got the news his wife had died. Nephew Martinez said he was in shock at the deaths.
Martinez said Irma was known as a steadfast optimist in her family - a woman with a great sense of humour who enjoyed singing her favourite classic rock tunes during parties.
"She's always been optimistic about everything and just so loving with the people in her life."
He added when emergency services entered Irma's classroom a short time after the shooting, they "found her body there, embracing children in her arms pretty much until her last breath".
The shooting unfolded at Robb Elementary School, about 130km west of San Antonio on Tuesday (local time). The shooter, identified as 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, opened fire about midday.
Twenty-one people were killed in the massacre, 19 of which were children and two were teachers.
The shooting has resumed America's gun debate - President Joe Biden spoke to the media in the days following the shooting and spoke about the need for "common sense" gun legislation.
"I hoped when I became President I would not have to do this, again. Another massacre... When in God's name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby?"
Biden added it's "time to turn this pain to action".
It comes as the debate reached boiling point during a media conference when two political rivals got into a shouting match over the massacre.
Sky News reports Texas Governor Greg Abbot addressed a room on Wednesday (local time) and blamed the shooting on a "mental health crisis" in the local community.
Democratic politician Beto O'Rourke, who is Abbott's opponent in this year's gubernatorial election, in response shouted "you are doing nothing to stop this, this is totally predictable".
