An asteroid is expected to pass by Earth but experts say there is nothing to worry about.
NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has reported the largest asteroid known as 7335 (1989 JA), will pass by on Friday missing earth by four million kilometres.
Stardome's astronomy educator Josh Aoraki told Newshub: "NASA classifies the asteroid as potentially hazardous as it is known as a NEO (near-Earth object)."
Aoraki said nothing will appear in New Zealand skies as it is too far from Earth.
"Nothing to see from the naked eye but someone may be able to see something with a telescope."
The astronomy educator told Newshub that asteroids from a far distance pass by Earth frequently so people do not need to panic.
"The asteroid does not pose any damage to Earth so we don't need to worry about it.
The asteroid is expected to pass by Earth on May 27.
