A 10-month-old baby girl has died in the United States after she fell out of the backseat of a car and was accidentally run over on Monday (local time).
Virginia police said the 35-year-old mother from Hyattsville, Maryland, was visiting family with her baby when the tragic accident took place.
She put her baby in the backseat unrestrained and drove her car a short distance to a rubbish bin. The 35-year-old then drove back home to pick up family members, Associated Press reported police as saying.
When a family member opened the back door, the 10-month-old fell out of the car. The mother got out of the driver's seat to check on her child, but she left the car in drive and the car rolled forward and ran over the child.
The 10-month-old sustained a serious head injury at the time and died later that day.
Police said no charges have been filed yet, but the case remains under investigation.
