He received 58.8 percent of support from the party with 41.2 percent voting against him. It means Johnson has less support than that received by Theresa May during her 2018 leadership challenge.

7:38am - According to a Reuters tally, at least 169 Conservative lawmakers have backed Johnson. The UK Prime Minister needs 180 votes to survive.
7:35am - The BBC is reporting sources close to Johnson believe he has won the vote.
"Sources close to PM confident he's won vote," said BBC political correspondent Nick Eardley on Twitter.
7:17am - Conservative MP Dehenna Davison has revealed she voted against Johnson.
"Many of you have understandably asked how I intended to vote in this evening's confidence ballot for the prime minister. Though it is a secret ballot, it feels right to share with you how I voted," Davison said in a Facebook post.
"This is not a decision I took lightly. I listened carefully to all sides, and particularly to the many constituents who contacted me sharing their thoughts and experiences. Weighing it all up, I voted against the prime minister tonight.
"I hope that, whatever the result, we politicians can now fully focus on the things we were elected to do for you. (And that is why I won't be commenting further on this now!)."
7:13am - Johnson has left for Downing Street as the votes are counted.
The latest numbers suggest he had 156 MPs who voted in favour of keeping him. He needs at least 180 to survive.
7:04am - Voting has now closed. The 1922 Committee of backbench Conservatives will now count the votes before the result is announced by chairman Sir Graham Brady at 8am (NZST).
7:01am - Several MPs have revealed they voted against Johnson including the former Scottish secretary David Mundell, Scottish Tory MP Andrew Bowie and the MP for Tewkesbury Laurence Robertson.
6:55am - Newshub Europe correspondent Lisette Reymer says the pressure has been on Johnson for months after the COVID-19 parties were exposed.
But Reymer says it looks like he will be okay.
"At least 130 have said they will vote to keep him as Prime Minister."
