A man in Perth has died in a horrific work accident after being caught in a conveyor belt.
The man was working at the Western Australia Salt Supply manufacturer when he got caught in the conveyor belt.
On Thursday at around 5:20 am (local time), police were called to the North Coogee site to try and save the worker but he died from his injuries.
7 News Australia reported the worker's death left his colleagues traumatised, with them consoling each other after his death.
WorkSafe investigators confirmed they are examining the circumstances around the worker's death.
Unions Western Australia secretary Owen Whittle said the death was an "absolute tragedy"
Whittle said there have been around 20 workplace deaths in WA over the past 12 months and that "it's a clear message that we always need to be doing more to keep our workplaces safe," 7 News Australia reported.
WA Salt Supply said they have launched an independent investigation into what went wrong.
"This is a devastating day for everyone at WA Salt, and our thoughts are with the deceased’s friends, family and colleagues at this extremely difficult time," the company said in a statement.
