Russian state TV is calling for Russia to take up Nicaragua's offer for its forces to enter the country so they can be within striking distance of the United States.
Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega recently authorized Russian troops, planes and ships to deploy to the central-American nation for humanitarian purposes.
In a decree published this week, Ortega will allow Russian troops to carry out law enforcement duties, "humanitarian aid, rescue and search missions in emergencies or natural disasters".
State TV host Olga Skabeyeva wants her country to take up Ortega's offer so Russian forces can be within striking distance of the US.
"If American missile systems can nearly reach Moscow from the Ukrainian territory, it's time for Russia to roll out something powerful closer to the American city on a hill," Skabeyeva said.
Nicaragua is just 3379kms south of the US border, Skabeyeva said Nicaragua's invitation is "the most unpleasant cherry atop the democratic cake for the United States."
The Nicaraguan Government also authorised the presence of a small contingent of Russian troops for exchange of experience and training.
Associated Press reported Russia's foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said that the measure was "routine".
