The invasion of Ukraine has killed at least 343 children since it began, the Prosecutor-General of Ukraine has said.
Ukrainian Prosecutor-General Iryna Venediktova said in a Telegram post that juvenile prosecutors have determined 343 children had died because of Russia's ongoing war against Ukraine.
Venediktova's Telegram post said the number of deaths wasn't final - "as work is ongoing to establish them in places of active hostilities, in temporarily occupied and liberated territories".
Whilst Russia has denied it has killed any civilians, as of June 27 the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has stated that 4731 civilians have been killed since the invasion began in February.
Out of the 4731 civilians, 134 were girls, 155 were boys and 41 children whose sex had not been identified, the OHCHR reported.
In April, United States President Joe Biden accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of being a war criminal and said he should be put on trial for the civilian killings in the Ukrainian town of Bucha.
"You saw what happened in Bucha," Biden told reporters at the White House. "This warrants him - he is a war criminal."
Newsweek reported the war has also taken a toll on educational buildings in Ukraine where Venediktova said 2102 had been damaged as a result of Russia's bombing and shelling and 215 buildings had been completely destroyed.
